21 Things I Wish Someone Told Me Sooner

In honour of my 21st birthday, yesterday, I came up with a list of things I wish someone had told me sooner in my life. Hopefully, you’ll be as inspired by this post as I was by writing it. Enjoy.

  1. It’s okay to fail. Regret is worse than embarrassment or failure.
  2. Surround yourself with people who are going to support you and your dreams.
  3. Crying is not a sign of weakness.
  4. It’s okay to ask for help. Most people are happy to help you out.
  5. Be your own person. Don’t let the decisions of others dictate your own choices.
  6. You have to love yourself before you can truly believe someone else loves you too.
  7. Whatever you’re going through, it’ll get better. Stay strong.
  8. Patience, politeness, perseverance, and persuasion are the key to success.
  9. Dreams do come true, if you work hard and stay positive.
  10. Know thyself. Know your limits, your talents, and your goals in life.
  11. You can take a break without feeling guilty. Sometimes you just need some time to do nothing.
  12. If you have an interest, pursue it. Don’t hold back and don’t put it off.
  13. Rejection is a part of life.
  14. Your choices are just that, yours. Yours and yours alone.
  15. The mind is a powerful thing. Think positive thoughts.
  16. You’re entitled to your feelings. Don’t let others tell you how you should or shouldn’t feel.
  17. If you can’t make up your mind, listen to your gut. It’ll steer you in the right direction.
  18. When it comes to friends, quality trumps quantity every time.
  19. You’re never alone. Ever.
  20. Be your authentic self. It’s okay to be different and it’s okay to be yourself.
  21. And lastly: happiness should be the goal, not love, power, or wealth.
